I was just wondering what my proper birthstone is. I have always thought that it was a garnet, that the stones went by the months. I just got a book (birthday encyclopedia) that says it is an amyethst. My birthday is Jan. 31, which one is correct?
There are birthstones, which are modern stones for each month; there are star stones, which are stones associated with the traditional rulers of your planets, according to your zodiac; there are beneficial stones, associated with the qualities of your ruling planets..

For January, besides garnets, there is lapis lazuli (for Saturn), Amethyst (for Aquarius), Turquoise (Aquarius' planetary stone), Emerald, Onyx, Agate...
