What is the difference between a moonstone and an opal



I just found this really beautiful ring in my mom's house but the store clerk wasn't really sure what type of stone the ring really was. She said it was either a moonstone or an opal but since the ring is pretty old it is hard to tell. Thank you.


They're different stones and they look different. Here are some images. I think the store clerk just wasn't very knowledgeable. Try asking a proper jeweler if you still don't know after you look at these pictures.
